Venom is a Savage Avenger

From Newsarama:

Writer Gerry Duggan and artist Mike Deodato Jr. will launch a new ongoing series titled Savage Avengers this May - and the team's line-up features none other than Conan the Barbarian. Spinning out of Avengers: No Road Home, Savage Avengers will take a deadly line-up of heroes into the Savage Land alongside Conan, who is sent into the Marvel Universe by evil sorcerers while on a quest for a magical amulet.

“This is an unsanctioned team of heroes,” Duggan told Entertainment Weekly. “It has to be something that visually makes sense to you, and I think it does. Mike Deodato Jr. is illustrating this book in both worlds. We envisioned a threat, a magical green zone where the evil wizards of Conan’s world are trading spells with the Hand in Japan. Conan is on a very Conan-like mission; he’s heard a tale of an amulet so he’s chasing it, and the evil magic sorcerers are doing something that would be a Marvel Avengers problem. It feels like we have found some very fertile ground that is a Venn diagram between those two worlds.”

The line-up of the Savage Avengers is rounded out by Wolverine, Venom, Punisher, Elektra, and Brother Voodoo. Duggan, who also writes the Conan solo title Savage Sword of Conan, says the team is one of the most deadly teams of Avengers ever.

"Savage Avengers is just what it says on the label - it’s all of the biggest badasses of the Marvel Universe brought together uneasily in one explosive series- and with Conan as a wild card,” SVP/Executive Editor Tom Brevoort added. "It’s big, it’s brash, it’s explosive, it never slows down - the only scenes in Savage Avengers that involve a table is when somebody is being thrown through one.”

Conan was previously announced to be returning to the primary Marvel Universe in upcoming issues of Avengers: No Road Home. The Cimmerian previously appeared in Avengers Forever, and was offered Avengers membership way back in 1984's What If? #43.

“The Marvel heroes have not quite seen the likes of Conan before, but when you turn it around and look at Conan viewing this, he’s very skeptical of a lot of it because he’s so magic-averse,” Duggan explained. “His interpretation of the Venom symbiote, when he first sees it, is that it must be an evil genie. There’s real fun to be had there. At one point Conan believes that Logan hails from somewhere called Pabst, and that’s a well-earned miscommunication. That’s where a lot of fun comes from. Conan is a fish out of water, but everyone will come to respect the skills they’re all bringing to the fight.”

Savage Avengers #1 is due out May 1.

Reminds me of when he was a Secret Avenger and then a Thunderbolt. I'm not a huge fan of Venom on a team, but I'll give it a chance. What are your thoughts on the latest Avengers group?

Thank you to everyone who tweeted me about this! Sorry it took so long for me to get it on the site!
